Advanced body enhancement with Breast Lift
As we age, our skin begins to lose elasticity, which can cause sagging in the breasts. In addition, lifestyle changes such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, and hormonal changes can influence the breasts, resulting in drooping, loss of volume, and changes to the nipple-areolar complex.
Breast lift surgery, also known as mastopexy, is the only cosmetic surgery specifically designed to address issues of breast sagging (ptosis), and it can provide dramatically improved results. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Geoffrey Kim performs breast lift surgery at an expert level in Denver, Colorado.
What Is a Breast Lift?
Breast lift surgery is the ideal cosmetic procedure to reshape, reposition, and restore your breasts to a perkier, more youthful appearance. This procedure is ideal for patients experiencing sagging, drooping, or misshapen breasts due to volume loss, elasticity loss, and the natural aging process.
Many women experience significant fluctuations in their breast size, shape, and volume during pregnancy and breastfeeding. As the breasts expand during pregnancy, the skin stretches to accommodate a new shape. However, many women experience a loss of volume after breastfeeding. They often experience disappointment when they realize the shape of their breasts has drastically changed. A breast lift can help remedy this change.
This cosmetic procedure lifts the breast tissue to a more youthful position on the chest, removes excess skin that causes ptosis, and can reshape the nipple-areolar complex to a more pleasing location on the breasts.
Why Choose a Breast Lift?
A breast lift can greatly enhance the overall shape, position, and appearance of the breasts for a perky, more youthful look. Women choose a breast lift to:
- Reshape uneven breast tissue
- Lift the breasts to a higher position
- Eliminate breast sagging
- Remove excess skin
- Reposition the nipple-areolar complex
- Restore sagging, pendulous, or angular breasts

What Are My Breast Lift Options?
Dr. Kim will discuss options with you at the time of your consultation. Breast lift surgery typically involves one of three incision types. The ultimate decision depends on your personal choice, Dr. Kim’s recommendations, and the extent of revision necessary.
Periareolar Incision
The periareolar incision encircles the areola and is best for women with mild breast ptosis. This incision type results in little, if any, visible scarring. While this may benefit some patients, the nature of this incision allows for little correction, and the nipple-areolar complex cannot be repositioned.
Lollipop Incision
This incision encircles the areola before continuing down vertically towards the bottom of the breast. The lollipop incision allows for mild to moderate revision of the breast tissue, with mild post-operative scarring.
Anchor Incision
The anchor incision allows for the greatest amount of revision; therefore, it is a highly popular option. Anchor incisions encircle the areola before continuing vertically towards the bottom of the breast, then run horizontally underneath the breast fold (inframammary fold).
Breast Lift With Augmentation
Many women choose to pair their breast lift with breast augmentation surgery to lift the breasts and restore lost volume. Combining these two procedures is a popular option, allowing Dr. Kim to fully restore the breasts to a perky, rounded position.
How Is a Breast Lift Performed?
Breast lift surgery is performed on an outpatient basis. Each breast lift procedure will be unique to the patient’s needs and the amount of correction needed, but you can generally expect the following:
- You will have a final opportunity to discuss your breast lift with Dr. Kim, and the predetermined incisions will be marked on and around the treatment areas.
- Depending on Dr. Kim’s suggestions based on your health, you will be given either general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. Your anesthesia will be administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist (MD) for optimum safety.
- Dr. Kim will make precise incisions on the treatment area as per your predetermined treatment plan.
- Dr. Kim will lift and reshape the breast tissue to improve breast contour and firmness. The nipple-areolar complex can then be repositioned to a natural, youthful height, which can also be reduced by trimming excess skin. Finally, excess breast skin will be excised.
- Dr. Kim will carefully close the incisions once your breasts are in a pleasing position and shape.
- Sutures, skin adhesives, and/or surgical tape may be used to close the skin. You will also be provided with dressings or bandages to cover the incisions in addition to a surgical garment to support your breasts.
everything is under one roof
What Is Breast Lift Recovery Like?
Breast lift recovery varies between patients, but Dr. Kim will provide specific and detailed instructions on caring for your breasts following surgery.
Most patients experience some bruising, swelling, and discomfort for the first few days following surgery. Swelling should subside within a few days or weeks, along with relief from discomfort. Over-the-counter pain relievers can help alleviate discomfort.
Breast lift patients can often return to work after one-week post-surgery, as long as their job is not labor-intensive. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for a few weeks or until Dr. Kim provides clearance.
When Will I See My Breast Lift Results?
You will notice an immediate change in your breasts following surgery. As you recover, the results of your breast lift will become even more apparent, especially as swelling and bruising begin to subside.
A breast lift restores the breasts to a youthful, perky position. Patients are often ecstatic over their new, lifted breasts. You can expect your breasts to be more symmetrical, shapely, and uniform.

How can I prepare for a breast lift?
Before your breast lift, you may be asked to:
- Get a blood test
- Take or adjust medications
- Avoid taking aspirin and certain anti-inflammatory drugs since they can increase bleeding
Will a breast lift make my breasts smaller?
The primary goal of a breast lift is to reposition, rejuvenate, and reshape the breasts. Since some skin is removed to improve ptosis, some individuals’ breasts may be slightly smaller, but only mildly so.
If you specifically want to reduce the size of your breasts, a breast reduction is the best option.
What procedures can I combine with a breast lift?
A breast lift is often combined with breast augmentation for lift, repositioning, and added volume. Additionally, some patients choose to combine their breast lift surgery with other procedures during a Mommy Makeover, which targets the areas of the body most affected by childbirth. Mommy Makeovers typically involve liposuction, tummy tuck surgery, and a breast lift with augmentation.
Is a breast lift permanent?
The results of your breast lift are intended to be long-lasting. Barring subsequent changes to the body, such as additional pregnancies, hormonal changes, or rapid weight fluctuations, you can enjoy your breast lift for years to come.
