Understanding a Brow Lift

Fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin are natural parts of the aging process. However, it can be challenging to accept these aging signs when they are so visible on your face, and you still feel young and vital. Frown lines can cause deep creases in the forehead and between the eyebrows. Sagging eyebrows can cause your eyelids to become hooded, contributing to an overall droopy and tired appearance.

Brow lift surgery is performed to minimize the appearance of wrinkles on the upper third of the face and lift sagging eyebrows for a more youthful look. Dr. Geoffrey Kim performs brow lifts in Denver, Colorado, for patients seeking facial rejuvenation.

What Is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift, also called a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure that targets signs of aging in the forehead and eyebrows. This procedure is ideal for patients with wrinkles, fine lines, and saggy skin on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and at the start of the nose bridge. For patients wanting to address signs of aging in the eyes or lower portion of the face, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) or a facelift can be combined with your brow lift for full facial harmony.

Our patients are patients for life. We love to hear their stories.

What Are My Brow Lift Options?

Your brow lift procedure will be customized to fit your face and goals. During a consultation with Dr. Kim, your face will be assessed to determine which brow lift technique would work best for your facial features.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

The most commonly used technique for a brow lift is the endoscopic incision. For this technique, tiny incisions are made along the hairline. An endoscope—a long tube attached to a video camera—is inserted into the scalp through the hairline incisions. Using an endoscope allows Dr. Kim to manipulate the tissue and muscle in the forehead area to smooth out creases and wrinkles.

Coronal Brow Lift

For the coronal brow lift, an incision is created in the hairline, on top of the head, or in the forehead crease. The location of the incision will depend on the patient. After the incision is made, Dr. Kim will lift the forehead skin so he can access the tissues and muscles underneath and remove any excess fat. The eyebrows will be repositioned for an elevated, youthful look.

Lateral Brow Lift

The lateral brow lift creates small incisions behind the hairline and near the temples. These incisions allow for the outer part of the eyebrows to be lifted.

Am I a Candidate for a Brow Lift?

If you want to address frown lines and sagging eyebrows, you may be a good candidate for brow lift surgery. Other factors that make you a good candidate for this procedure include:

How Is a Brow Lift Performed?

Brow lift surgery is customized to suit the patient’s needs, goals, and overall face. The techniques and exact steps used will vary from patient to patient, but you can expect the following:

  1. Before your procedure begins, Dr. Kim will review the surgical plan with you again and allow you to ask any more questions.
  2. You will be given local or general anesthesia administered by a board certified anesthesiologist, depending on which is recommended for the techniques used during your surgery.
  3. Dr. Kim will create incisions in the agreed-upon area.
  4. Depending on the brow lift technique, tissues, muscles, and skin will be readjusted to reduce wrinkles and lift the eyebrows.
  5. Dr. Kim will close the incisions once the eyebrows are correctly repositioned.
  6. Your treatment area will be wrapped or bandaged to help the swelling decrease, and you’ll receive detailed aftercare instructions.

What Is Brow Lift Recovery Like?

Brow lift recovery takes around 10 to 14 days for the surgical site to heal. However, complete recovery may take several months. During your recovery, it is expected to experience some swelling, tightness, bruising, and numbness. Treat your incision areas with extra care and avoid touching them. For the first week of recovery, you’ll need to sleep on your back with your head elevated to prevent any unnecessary pressure on your stitches.

Make sure to follow the specific instructions that Dr. Kim gives you. Attend any necessary follow-up appointments to make sure your body is healing properly.

When Will I See My Brow Lift Results?

After brow lift surgery, you’ll immediately see a noticeable difference in your forehead and eyebrow area. Your final results may take a few months to appear since it takes time for swelling to subside and the incision sites to heal completely.

Once you are completely healed, you’ll be able to enjoy your smooth forehead and elevated brows. Your brow lift results will be long-lasting if you take care of your skin and wear sun protection regularly. However, a brow lift cannot stop you from naturally aging over time.
