Laser Resurfacing
It’s no secret that feeling confident in your skin and overall appearance can greatly impact self-esteem. Many of us have high expectations for our skin and seek a smooth, even, and blemish-free facial aesthetic. It can be difficult to achieve this flawless appearance, especially because it’s common for our skin to have spots, blemishes, and other imperfections. Additionally, factors such as genetics, sun damage, and the natural aging process also impact the skin’s appearance.
Laser skin resurfacing can help those who are interested in enhancing their skin and creating a smoother, clearer appearance. Colorado Aesthetic Plastic Surgery offers laser skin resurfacing to help patients reach their skin goals and feel confident in their appearance.
What Is Laser Resurfacing?
Patients seeking facial rejuvenation may be drawn to laser resurfacing, a non-surgical treatment that uses controlled beams of light to remove the outer layer of the skin and reveal smoother, clearer skin underneath. Laser resurfacing can be used to smooth wrinkles, reduce the appearance of scars, remove sun spots, and improve skin complexion. This treatment works by using a laser device and passing light beams over a selected area of skin, allowing the beams to precisely remove the layer of skin with imperfections.

Everyone’s skin is unique, and people often have different goals for their skin. Still, it can be emotionally exhausting to dislike your skin’s imperfections. Laser resurfacing can reduce these skin insecurities and help boost your confidence in your skin.
Some benefits of laser skin resurfacing include:
- Addressing fine lines and wrinkles
- Reducing scars
- Creating a more even skin tone
What Are My Laser Resurfacing Options?
Different laser devices can achieve different results. During a consultation, we’ll discuss your laser options in greater detail and make recommendations based on your skin, health history, and aesthetic goals.
Ablative Laser
For patients who seek a more dramatic improvement, an ablative laser may be the best option. Ablative lasers use energy beams to remove the layer of skin with blemishes, uneven tone, and other imperfections. The laser also heats the underlying skin layers, boosting collagen growth. Once fully healed from treatment, firmer and smoother skin is left behind. Common types of ablative lasers include CO2 lasers and erbium lasers.
Nonablative Laser
Like the ablative laser, the nonablative laser also increases collagen production. However, this option is less intense compared to the ablative laser, making it a more suitable option for patients seeking subtle improvements.

How Is Laser Resurfacing Performed?
Each laser resurfacing treatment is tailored to suit the patient’s individual needs. During your treatment, you can expect the following steps:
- Your laser skin resurfacing treatment plan will be reviewed with you.
- Your skin may be numbed to make for a more comfortable experience.
- In preparation for the laser treatment, your skin will be thoroughly cleaned, and you’ll be given protective eyewear.
- Dr. Kim will pass the laser device over the treatment area, allowing the light beams to remove the outer skin layer.
What Is Laser Resurfacing Recovery Like?
After treatment, your skin will be swollen, red, and irritated. Many patients describe the feeling as comparable to a sunburn. It is important to avoid scratching your skin at this time. Five to seven days after treatment, the skin will peel on its own, revealing newer skin underneath. Dr. Kim will provide instructions for cleaning and moisturizing your skin during recovery to ensure the best results.
When Will I See My Laser Resurfacing Results?
Your skin may have some redness for a few months after laser resurfacing treatment. Results will continue to develop up to one year after treatment, showing smoother, clearer skin. To maintain your results, it is essential to keep your skin moisturized and avoid sun exposure when possible. Additionally, wearing sunscreen every day is important.
